שם הניגון מבוסס על האימרה המפורסמת של אדמו"ר המהר"ש – דעת העולם היא שכאשר אי אפשר ללכת מלמטה, אזי הולכים מלמעלה ("אריבער" באידיש) ואני אומר "לכתחילה אריבער" ,
(מההתחלה למעלה). המהר"ש חיבב ניגון זה במיוחד ונהג לשיר אותו לעתים קרובות.
The name of the niggun, given by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, is based on the well-known saying of the Rebbe Maharash: “The world says that when it is impossible to clamber from underneath, leap over the top! (‘aribber’ in Yiddish); and I say : ‘Lechat’chilah Aribber’ ( a priori, leap over the top ).” The Rebbe Maharash especially liked this niggun and sang it frequently.
