Arrangement, Altered Lyrics, Lead and Background Vocals, Lead, Rhythm, and Background Acoustic Guitar’s, Bass Guitar, Drum Track engineering by Avigdor Zeitlin.

This song, bearing altered lyrics, is based on the country blues song “Sittin’ on top of the World”, written by Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon. They were core members of the Mississippi Sheiks, who first recorded it in 1930. It was later performed by many country, bluegrass, and blues musicians and singers, my favorite version being that of good ole’ Doc Watson.

In this version, the lyrics, sung in first person, tell of misfortunes and challenges experienced. The character in the song expresses his unwavering faith in Hashem (G-d) who will surely help him out of his sorry predicament…

LYRICS:

It was in the spring, one sunny day,

My old horse left me, oh, he went away,

And now he's gone but I don't worry,

'Cause Hashem’s sittin’ on top of the world!

They sent me a letter from back in town,

Said: come pay your bills you’re power’s goin’ down,

And now it’s gone but I don't worry,

'Cause Hashem’s sittin’ on top of the world!

My only cow’s now grazin’ on high,

My coffee’s black, and my oatmeal’s dry,

And now she's gone but I don't worry,

'Cause Hashem’s sittin’ on top of the world!

Mississippi River, long, deep and wide,

And The Holy Land is on the other side,

And though its far, but I don't worry,

'Cause Hashem’s sittin’ on top of the world!
