A song describing how the singer and his wife meet young people who have an interest in learning further about their heritage, and how these young Baalei Teshuva truly find meaning in their new lives.

This song is based on “In the Jailhouse Now", an American novelty blues song originally found in vaudeville performances from the early 20th century, usually credited to Jimmie Rodgers. The song's first two verses trace the exploits of Ramblin’ Bob, who cheats at cards and gets caught, while the final verse tells about taking a girl named Susie out on the town and winding up in jail together.

Personally, my favorite version is that of the late great Doc Watson.

ALTERED LYRICS:

THEY’RE SINGING NOW

VERSE:
I met a guy named Jacko, he used to play cards and gamble,
And on the side he'd work so he mopped up,
I told him he shouldn't do it, and Jacko told me he knew it,
I sent him to fill his good ol’ Yiddishe Kup.

CHORUS:
He’s in Yeshiva now,
He’s in Yeshiva now,
Well Yankel is now how he's called, with a nice Kippa atop his bald,
He’s in Yeshiva now…

VERSE
My wife brought home a girl named Sadie, whom she's seen at the mall lately,
She'd like to learn more what Jewish life’s about,
So we brought her to a school, with some teachers really cool
Now her name is Sara and Torah is her new route.

CHORUS
She’s in sem now,
Yes Sara’s in sem now,
Now she'd like to build, a home that with G-dliness will be filled,
She’s dating Yankel now…

VERSE
So Yankel and Sara wed, and they live on a pretty spread,
With ten little kiddies bouncin’ around,
And their Shabbos table is full, of drifters from the town’s Shul
And their song reflects the treasure they all found,

CHORUS
They're singing now,
Oh yes, They're singing now,
There's one thing that they request, that they want really best,
We want Mashiach now!
